The town of Lenox is located in Berkshire County in Massachusetts. On the eastern and western side, it is bordered by mountains and this caused the area to remain a wilderness into the 1800s. Early industries included sawmills, farming, textile mills, glassworks, quarrying and the production of potash. A vein of iron ore was discovered and this led to mines being dug under the town. The western border of the town is formed by the Berkshire Mountains and visitors to the hotels Lenox has to offer will notice the highest peak in the ridge, Yokun Seat, 2,124 feet above sea level. The eastern border is formed by October Mountain and the Housatonic River and several marshy brooks feed into the river throughout the town.

Every year in the summer, The Tanglewood Music Center offers emerging musicians an opportunity to participate in performances, workshops and master classes. This academy has been designed to provide them with in-depth training and to enable them to network with one another and with other musicians. The center forms part of the Tanglewood Music Festival, a concert series that takes place in the outdoors. The Boston Symphony Orchestra also takes part in the festival. Most of the Tanglewood chamber concerts take place at the Seiji Ozawa Hall. Guests staying at the hotels Lenox provides should not miss an opportunity to attend the festival if they have a love of music.

In close proximity to many of the hotels and found in Stockbridge in Berkshire County, the 15-acre Berkshire Botanical Garden has a collection of more than 3,000 species and varieties. The emphasis is on local plants and specifically those that thrive in the Berkshires. The public display in the gardens is one of the oldest found in the country. While in Stockbridge, the guest can visit Chesterwood Estate, the home of American sculptor, Daniel Chester French, who died in 1931. Declared a National Historic Landmark, it is now a museum and tours can be taken in the summer.

There are a number of ski resorts close to Lenox. Jiminy Peak is one in Hancock and guests of the hotels Lenox offers can participate in skiing and snowboarding in winter. The Mountain Adventure Park offers a variety of activities in summer, from an alpine super slide to a mountain coaster. A miniature golf course has been laid out and fishing and hiking and mountain biking are popular. A swimming pool as well as restaurants completes the attractions for this resort. The Taconic Mountains, in which the resort is located, is an ideal spot for housing development and this has increasingly proved to be the case. Meetings and conferences are arranged in The Mountain and visitors can also book it for weddings and parties. Ski Butternut, named after the butternut trees in the basin of the mountain, is located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. More than twenty trails, a variety of ski lifts, terrain parks and a tubing area can be found here. The Berkshires Arts festival and a number of other summer festivals take place here annually.

A visit to The Mount, the house of author, Edith Wharton, is a visit to a the house bear testament to strange noises and weird experiences while living there. The house is open to the public and the brave ones who are guests of the hotels Lenox has placed them in can join a ghost tour on Friday evenings in the summer. Edith Wharton herself had an interest in the supernatural and wrote many ghost stories.

Selected rooms are equipped with microwaves and with refrigerators, allowing guests to keep milk and cold drinks cool during the summer. Cable TV and coffee makers add to the convenience of the rooms and many rooms may have a seating area or a desk to work from.
